No Fear by Pastor Carl W. Mann, II

Isaiah 54:17 (KJV) “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.”

The voice on the radio would ask the question, “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?” After a brief pause, the same voice would answer the question, “The ‘Shadow’ knows!”

I was born when televisions did not exist. Instead of the family TV occupying the prominent position in the living room of most homes, the family radio stood in a prominent place so that everyone could move their chairs closer to it or sit on the floor in front of it as the music, soap-company serial programs, and suspense programs brought forth its entertainment.

“The Shadow” weekly program always started with some suspenseful music followed by the provocative question that I mentioned earlier.  Regardless of the present attitudes of the hearers, as soon as that music started, everyone’s attitude immediately transformed into one of expectation, sobriety, and fear.  I believe that was the intent of the radio programmers!

Of course, the adults knew it was only a radio program; however, they were quite willing to invest their emotions into the program, so they could enjoy the ambiance of the story and receive one-half hour of escape from the realities of their lives. For us children, however, it was very difficult to distinguish the difference between the “fact or fiction” of “The Shadow,” because we saw the concern and anxiety that filled the faces of our parents when they heard the “voices” present the daily news from the same “box” that stood in the living room.

Unlike “The Shadow,” which is not real, “The shadow of death,” and “your adversary, the devil” are real and there is no fictional character that has the supernatural power to know what evil lurks in the hearts of men, and devils, for that matter!  Praise the Lord!  We serve the Awesome God before Whom nothing is hidden, and no darkness can obscure His vision.

Hebrews 4:12-13 (KJV) “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do” (Emphasis Mine).

I appreciate the way the New Century Version states these Scriptures…

Hebrews 4:12-13 (NCV) “God’s word is alive and working and is sharper than a double-edged sword. It cuts all the way into us, where the soul and the spirit are joined, to the center of our joints and bones. And it judges the thoughts and feelings in our hearts. Nothing in all the world can be hidden from God. Everything is clear and lies open before him, and to him we must explain the way we have lived” (Emphasis Mine).

I receive great comfort in knowing that God not only see what I do, but also why I do anything!  Well, to be truthful, my sinful nature wishes that God did not have that ability because it cannot hide behind a “lying face!” Because God sees clearly, and can discern the thoughts and intents of every heart, He has the ability to intervene on behalf of His Children when the enemy is busy strategizing schemes and slander against them.

We are scarcely in the New Year and it has already been overshadowed with the “shadow” of evil intent and diabolical actions and threats.  Oftentimes, individuals hate to welcome a New Year because they fear what the New Year will present.  It does not require exceptionally keen vision or insight to recognize that this world is not getting better!  Nonetheless, the Child of God does not have to live with an attitude of fear.  In fact, because Jesus has already overcome the enemy, the Child of God has the privilege, and the expectation, to live with an attitude of faith and great anticipation!

We live under the “Shadow of Terror,” economic uncertainty, questionable national leadership, and problematic disunity.  At least, this is what the media “voices” present continually to their “hearers,” and they present their information in such a manner that one has a difficulty differentiating fact from fiction.  Once again, thankfully, we do not have to rely on a fictional character by the name of “The Shadow,” to search men’s hearts.

In today’s Scripture, Isaiah is encouraging the Children of Israel to take heart and look to God in their time of need.  God had promised Abraham that He would not forsake His Children; therefore, there was no need to fear their enemies – NOT if they kept their hearts focused on the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob!

The Enemy of our soul is a created being.  He is NOT god!!  However, he has a desire to be just like God.  As for that wish, I suppose he could wish in one hand, spit in the other, and see which one is wet!  That is how close he will come to being God!!! I digress!!

Satan saw God “form” man with His hands; therefore, he fancies himself as being able to imitate God.  He desires to “form” weapons to fight against the Child of God whom God “formed” for His Glory.  What is interesting, however, Satan does NOT have the power to create something out of nothing!  Only God has the Power to speak something out of nothing!!!  Therefore, the Enemy uses those whom he can influence to “form” weapons to fight against God Children.

God spoke through His prophet, Isaiah, to tell the Children of Abraham that they do NOT need to fear what the makers of armaments could do, nor what the spoilers could do; for, He had created them, and they could only do what God allowed!

Isaiah 54:16 (KJV) “Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.”

If we truly believe that God is Good, do we need to fear anything that He will allow, or orchestrate to affect our lives?  While the Enemy believes he is devising (forming) weapons to harm or destroy God’s Children, our Awesome God is “using” the Enemy to work perfection in our souls, and establish the faithfulness of God.  This is the reality of the promise of Romans 8:28.

Romans 8:28 (KJV) “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

We could say, “It really doesn’t matter what God leads me to, into, or around! I can walk with “No Fear!”  No, I choose not to be fearful in this New Year!  After all, while the Enemy is up to his worst, my God is up to His Best!
