Colossians 2:8-10 “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.  For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.  And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:” (Emphasis Added).

I’ve always been intrigued by this Scriptural Statement – “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.”  God has given me the faith to believe that Jesus Christ of Nazareth is the Only Begotten Son of God – Very God, of Very God!  To believe in His deity has never been a difficulty for me.  I praise the Lord for His wonderful gift of faith!!

I’ve looked upon the Man, Christ Jesus with great admiration and adoration! With this, I’ve often considered what it meant, “…the fulness of the Godhead bodily.”  I accepted it by faith; nonetheless, I endeavor to reflect upon it now, with you.

Researching Greek, I found that “Godhead” (theotēs), coupled with its root Greek word, used only here in the NT, designates the totality of God’s nature and person. The Greek word could also be translated as “Deity” but not as “divinity” (theotēs) used in Romans 1:20, because divinity emphasizes only the divine nature. The Godhead encompasses God’s nature and person. — Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary

All the fullness of the Godhead dwells (or, permanently resides) in the very body of Jesus, the God-man. Through the incarnation, ALL the Godhead took up bodily residence in Jesus. Therefore the Holy Spirit inspired Paul to write…

2 Corinthians 5:19 “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation” (Emphasis Added).

Since this doctrinal precept is true, there must be corroborating Scriptural evidence to give us understanding.  It is found in the most convicting, convincing, and concise statement made by Jesus…

John 14:6-7 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.  If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him” (Emphasis Added).

Since the “fulness of the Godhead” dwelt in Jesus, He must have manifested the Triune Godhead while here on earth.  He did!!! He manifested…

  1. FATHER – “THE WAY”

When Jesus said, “I am the way…” John 14:6a, He was drawing attention to His Father.  It was His Father Who sent His Son to provide the ONLY means whereby a soul could be saved!

John 1:12-13 (KJV) “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God” (Emphasis Added).

John 3:17 (KJV) “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved” (Emphasis Added).

The Man, Christ Jesus did not come into the world on His Own, or for His Own Purpose!  He was “Sent” by the Father to manifest His Presence in full harmony with the Holy Spirit!

Hebrews 1:1-3 (KJV) “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;” (Emphasis Added).

  • ENTRANCE

God was NOT obligated to provide ANY “Way” for lost mankind to be reconciled with Him. However, because God IS Love, and He created mankind in His image and after His likeness, He provided THE “Entrance” into eternal relationship and reconciliation.  Jesus manifested this…

John 10:9 “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”

John 14:6b “…no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Hebrews 10:19-20 “Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;”

Many will object to God’s Choice for salvation.  Many contend that there are many “ways” to God; however, there is only One Way – Jesus Christ of Nazareth!  For those who object to this, it would be tantamount to refusing to accept the key to a new house that was provided as a gift.

Suppose I recognize that you are homeless.  My heart is moved to help you; therefore, I make provision to present you with a brand-new home.  The only stipulation I give with this “gift” is that you will have to use the “key” that I provide so you can open the front door. You cannot use any other key for that door, AND, it is the only way into your new home.  BUT, you are insulted by the requirement of having to use my “key!”  Hence, you refuse my offer of a new home!  This is what many will do to the Father’s “Entrance” to Eternal Life!

  • EXAMPLE

The Father has a design for everyone to follow.  He sent His Only Begotten Son to present His Example.

Deuteronomy 1:30-33The LORD your God which goeth before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes;  And in the wilderness, where thou hast seen how that the LORD thy God bare thee, as a man doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went, until ye came into this place.  Yet in this thing ye did not believe the LORD your God,  Who went in the way before you, to search you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, to show you by what way ye should go, and in a cloud by day” (Emphasis Added).

Matthew 4:19 “And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Emphasis Added).

John 10:27 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:” (Emphasis Added).

“A Leader knows the way, shows the way, and goes the way.” –John Maxwell
