The Secret of the Lord (Part 2) by Pastor Carl W. Mann, II

Psalm 25:14 (KJV) “The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.”

Last week we discussed that God has an “in crowd” that is composed of them that “fear Him.”

As I studied the Scriptures, I discovered that the “Secret of the LORD” has a…

  1. Place

Using the Hebrew definition for “Secret” in our search of Scripture, we would have to understand that there must be a “Place” where God’s “in crowd” would meet.  This “Place,” while others would know about it, could only be accessed by God’s “in crowd.”  When we consider Moses, with whom God spoke to “face to face as, as a man speaks unto his friend” (Exodus 33:11), we gain insight into the “Place” where the “Secret of the LORD” meets.

God was disappointed and dismayed with the children of Israel because they rejected His Lordship and became complicit with idolatry AFTER He had delivered them from the bondage of Egypt “with a mighty hand!”  Therefore, He no longer desired for the people (as a whole) to be able to approach His Presence.  Moses moved the Tabernacle outside the camp and met with the Lord alone.  God informed Moses that He was finished with Israel, BUT, Moses interceded for the people of Israel and God promised that He would continue to manifest His Presence for the sake of Moses, NOT because the people deserved it!

Moses desired to go “deeper” in and with the Lord; therefore, He made a bold request, “I beseech thee, show my thy glory” (Exodus 33:18a).

Moses was “drawn” by the Presence of God to go deeper, more intimate, and more trustingly to discover the “Secret of the LORD.”  When Moses made his request, he was expressing his desire to see God’s “Essential Glory.”  The “Essential Glory” of God relates to the “Light” that John speaks of when he says, “God is Light, and in him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5).

The “Essential Glory” of God is the “Glory of His Existence” that Paul spoke about, “Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto, whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen” (1 Timothy 6:16). This is the “Light” that manifested between the Golden Cherubim above the “Mercy Seat” in the Holy of Holies.

Moses was also expressing his desire to see God’s “Ethical Glory” – His Character.  Moses not only wanted to catch a glimpse of God, but He wanted to “know” Him.  God showed Moses His “Ethical Glory” thusly, Exodus 34:5-8 (KJV) “And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD. And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped” (Emphasis Mine).

Now, reflect upon the Scriptures wherein Moses made his request…

Exodus 33:18-23“And he said, I beseech thee, show me thy glory. And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy. And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen” (Emphasis Mine).

God told Moses, “there is a place by me!”  It is not clear where “there is a place by me” was; but, when the Holy Spirit moved upon the Psalmist to write what we know as Psalms 16, He not only gave prophetic insight into our Lord, Jesus Christ, but He also gave insight into the “Place” where the “Secret of the LORD” is made known.

Psalm 16:11 (KJV) “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore” (Emphasis Mine).

I know where all my “valuables” are.  Since my wife and I are “one,” we hold all things in unity and are very judicious with whom we share our personal “business!”  God is very judicious with whom He shares His “Secret” and holds His Most Valuable Asset at His “Right Hand.”

Therefore, the “Place” where the “Secret of the LORD” is conducted is at His “Right Hand.”  God will make manifest His “Secret” from His “Right Hand” only to those who are a part of His “in crowd.”  This leads us to the next aspect of the “Secret of the LORD.”
