Proverbs 29:18 (KJV) “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”
Last week we concluded our discussion of “Unaware” with the following statement…
Let us practice “looking” for Jesus in this New Year. In so doing, we will not be caught unaware.
The common culture of most individuals today is to “follow their dreams.” The word “Dream” comes up quite often. We often hear, “What is the dream for your life?” “Don’t let your dreams die!” “Your dream will keep you going.”
Now, let us consider…
Often, when a person is asked, “What is the dream for your life?” they will respond with, “I want to be happy and to grow old in peace.” The problem with this “dream,” is it will be achieved temporarily at best, and never at worst. You might ask, “Why?” The answer is simple – “Happiness is absolutely conditional!”
You noticed, I just used a word, “absolutely,” that is becoming increasingly politically incorrect! Many people do NOT accept that truth is absolute. They want everyone to enjoy their personal truth; therefore, they adhere to an oxymoronic value – “There is NO absolute truth!” Now, consider that statement – it is an “absolute” statement!
I practice a Biblical world view. That is, I attempt to assess circumstances, consequences, and choices in relationship with Scripture. I adhere to the following statement…
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (KJV) “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” (Emphasis Added).
Some people believe that the Bible is partially correct; however, it has become tainted over time because of man’s involvement. I am NOT one of these people! Regardless of how many “men” have tampered with the Bible, I believe that the Sovereign God has maintained the sanctity and security of His Word! By the way, God must be “Absolutely” Sovereign, or He is NOT God at all! It is important to understand that SINCE the Bible is God’s Word, it is “Absolutely” True whether anyone believes it or not!
Some might reply to my last statement with, “That is your opinion!” NO! It is more than my opinion – it is my CHOICE! I have cast my future, my fate, and my faith on, and in, the Word of God. I have learned, and experienced, that the Word of God is far more than the print or pen-stroke of Words on parchment or paper – The Word of God is Jesus Christ!
John 1:1-3 (KJV) “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made” (Emphasis Added).
There are many reasons I believe in the Word of God. The Main Reason is my relationship with Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Only Begotten Son of God, Who gave Himself as the Sacrifice for my sins on the Cross of Calvary, Who resurrected from the dead, and is seated at the Right Hand of God. He will come again in Glory to judge the living and the dead. His Kingdom will never end!
I read Scriptures that presented what I just stated. However, after experiencing the “New Birth” through the convincing of the Holy Spirit and faith in the shed Blood of Jesus Christ, I could “see” the Truth of Scripture.
John 3:3 (KJV) “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (Emphasis Added).
This is an important principle – “One must be born again before he can see spiritually!” Before I had my encounter with Jesus Christ, the primary principle I lived by was, “Play it by ear!” I was taught this principle by my mother, it was reinforced by my father’s passive acclamation, and accepted whatever transpired in “life” as though it “happened for a reason!” With such a philosophy, it was easy to ascribe the consequences or circumstances to “life happens;” therefore, everything was a result of CHANCE instead of CHOICE!
After I encountered Jesus Christ of Nazareth, my spiritual eyes were opened, and I gained a greater understanding and knowledge of the power of choice. I received the “Revelation of Jesus Christ,” and I gained an eternal “Vision,” – to follow Jesus Christ and BE like Him!
Reviewing the core Scripture of this blog, Proverbs 29:18 (KJV) “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he,” we discover that the word “vision,” means “mental sight, dream, or revelation.” The word, “perish,” means “be refused, be exposed, or be naked.”
So, we could rightly rephrase part of this Scripture as, “When men do not have spiritual sight, or the Word of God, they will live in such a manner that they are refused by God and exposed to any enemy that may attack or hinder.”
Now, let’s review the latter portion of today’s Scripture. The word “keepeth” means “keep, observe, or preserve.” The word “law,” means “the Torah, Pentateuch, or Word of God.” The word “blessed,” means “happiness or happy.”
So, we could rightly rephrase part of this Scripture as, “But, the man who observes and respects God’s Word experiences true happiness.”
Now, let us place both rephrases together, “When men do not have spiritual sight, or the Word of God, they will live in such a manner that they are refused by God and exposed to any enemy that may attack or hinder. But, the man who observes and respects God’s Word experiences true happiness.”
The Man, Christ Jesus had spiritual vision and was protected from the onslaughts of the enemy.
John 14:30 (KJV) “Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me” (Emphasis Added).
The Man, Christ Jesus understood His Mission and did not allow Himself to be distracted.
Luke 19:10 (KJV) “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
The reason the Man, Christ Jesus was able to accomplish His Mission, walking in the Father’s Perfect Will, was because He submitted His will to His Father’s. His “Vision” was in harmony with His Father.
John 8:28-29 (KJV) “Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him” (Emphasis Added).
Since I have been “born again,” the Holy Spirit has empowered me to be able to have spiritual sight and receive the Word of God through which to fulfill the mission for which I was created.
Philippians 2:5 (KJV) “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:” (Emphasis Added).
Now, all I need to do is ensure that my “Vision” is in harmony with the Father’s!
