“And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, ‘Follow me.’ And he arose, and followed him. And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, ‘Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?’ But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, ‘They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.’” Matthew 9:9-13 (KJV)

LORD, You are the Righteous Lamb of God Who came to take away the sins of the world! We praise You for Your Faithfulness and we are eternally grateful for Your Grace and Mercy!
LORD, we are grateful that You came to seek and to save sinners. We would be lost without You! Help us to respond to Your call as quickly as Matthew did. You chose him while he was counted less than acceptable and rejected by the Jews. You chose each of us while we were unlovely, lost, and rebellious. We praise You for Your Goodness!
LORD, help us to show our gratitude by never forgetting what You brought us from. Help us to be mindful that we were once despicable and deplorable in the eyes of all that is Holy, BUT You looked upon us with eyes of Love and Mercy and called us to “Follow” You!
LORD, help us to be slow to speak criticism of others, slow to become angry with others, and quick to hear the heart-cries of the lost and hurting. May we extend the same Love that You have offered to us, to all that we see and with whom we interact. Help us to be mindful that You call us to be Your witness always. May we live in such a manner that represents You with excellence!
LORD, we call upon You to open the “blinded eyes” of ALL who do not “see” their need of salvation. We pray that You will soften the hearts of those who do not value the sanctity of life. We pray that you will move upon the hearts of mothers to cherish their children more than themselves. We pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and that You will change the hearts of those who seek the destruction of Your Chosen People!
LORD, in all this, we cry out, “Even so, come Lord Jesus!” Amen.
